What inspires you to work in the HIV field?
My journey into the HIV field began with my own diagnosis, which transformed my life and gave me a deeper understanding of the virus. I’ve been living with HIV for the past seven years, and initially faced fear, stigma and uncertainty. However, with the support of healthcare professionals and advocates, I achieved viral suppression and an undetectable status, which allowed me to regain control of my health. This experience motivated me to become an advocate, raising awareness about HIV, fighting stigma and empowering others. I have witnessed how misinformation can affect individuals and communities, reinforcing my belief that working in the HIV response is not just about treatment, but also about education, support and creating safe environments. Working in this field gives me purpose, knowing that my personal story can inspire others to seek help and adhere to treatment.
What are your goals as an IAS change maker?
As part of the change maker network, my goals are centred around empowering communities and driving meaningful change in the global HIV response. My primary aim is to enhance HIV awareness and education, particularly among young people and marginalized groups, by creating platforms for dialogue, addressing stigma, and advocating for inclusive health policies. I also want to strengthen community advocacy, ensuring that the voices of people living with HIV are heard and integrated into both national and global HIV strategies. Additionally, I plan to build collaborative networks with fellow young leaders and organizations to influence policy reforms that contribute to achieving the 95-95-95 targets. Through the change makers network, I hope to further develop my leadership skills and contribute to sustainable solutions that address the intersection of HIV, gender equality and socioeconomic inclusion.
