What inspires you to work in the HIV field?

I’ve always believed that art holds the power to transform society. Growing up, I was deeply inspired by how icons like Keith Haring (the 1980s American pop culture street artist) used their creative talents to raise AIDS awareness – his work not only reached people’s hearts but also ignited hope amid widespread stigma. I want to carry forward that legacy by creating impactful artworks and comics that resonate emotionally, challenge harmful stereotypes and foster understanding. In Iraq, where misinformation and prejudice continue to create barriers to care, art offers a unique medium to humanize the HIV experience and spark meaningful dialogue.

What are your goals as an IAS change maker?

My goals as an IAS change maker are to develop community-driven initiatives that dismantle HIV stigma and counter misinformation in Iraq. I plan to harness my skills as an activist and an artist to produce compelling illustrated narratives that promote accurate information, empathy and informed dialogue. By collaborating with local activists, healthcare professionals and international organizations, I aim to build sustainable platforms for education and conversation. Through workshops and digital campaigns, I hope to empower communities to access critical resources and support. Ultimately, I want to transform HIV from a subject of fear into one of understanding and compassion, fostering lasting social change and a more inclusive society.
